need some help. Have a code 9 problem
ok. i just had a zc d16a8 put in my 90 hatch. its giving me code 9. code 9 means its a cyp sensor. I have done a but load of research and i cant find a replacement cyp. also along my findings i have read that a cyp sensor going bad is rare and the issue is more like the dizzy going bad. I had read that if you find brown or red dust in the cap it means that a bearing is spun. I checked it last night and the was a little in there. Most people that said they had a spun bearing also heard some bad noises. like whining and grinding. This is what the car is doing. its runs and drives. but idles rough. once i get above 3 grand seems to get better. would that also be a side effect of a bad dizzy? I had also got another code on the computer about a vacuum leak. I think we got them all taken care of tho. could it be a vacuum leak thats making the rough idle and something else is making code 9? any help would be great. i dont want to spend 100's buying parts to troubleshoot.

Is this a DPFI to MPFI conversion? The DPFI system does not use that sensor. You need to fit a MPFI distributor with CKP, TDC and CYP sensors, as the DPFI unit has only the first two. Also I don't think the harness on a DPFI car is even wired for it. A little dust in the distributor is nothing to worry about.

a friend of mine that has done several swaps before did the swap. he is very thorough with his swaps. I dont know nearly as much as him so if something was wrong i wouldn't know where. If it was in the injection wouldn't there be a code for that?

No, the cap and rotor is the same. Really when you're putting in a "new" engine you should go ahead and buy new tune-up parts.
Make sure your distributor is one with 3 sensors, check the sensors for resistance and ground faults, and check that they are properly wired to the ECU.
