nevermind... did a google search... found my answer. Thank you for your help! I appreciate it... I know a lot about cars... but these dang Hondas confuse me sometimes. LOL... Used to those Chevy's!!

 

GOT IT!!(at least I think so... ) I'll see tomorrow when I drive to work.... it's idling MUCH better.

Yeah, it's what HARI said to do... I got the code (14... IAC)... bought some carb/throttlebody cleaner today... took off the sensor (which was caked with carbon deposits) and sprayed away... cleaned it really good (screen and all) put it all back together... reset the computer (take the "backup" fuse out for a minute or so)... started 'er up... it took a second 'cause it was cleaning the carbon out... and it now idles at a calm 800RPM... with the A/C on... because of other things I was doing, I didn't have time for a test drive, but tomorrow morning will be sufficient.... as soon as I can get the right size driver, I'm going to take my intake off and spray out my throttle body, too (the phillips head is stripped)... and it should make it run 100% better. Thanks for the help, guys.

did not think that the iacv would make the symptoms that you described though.

have read that one should not spray out a throttle body with carb cleaner.

 

I've heard that too, however... I've been using carb cleaner for years, and never had a problem... the stuff I got was a carb/choke/throttlebody cleaner...

Edit#2 - Found this on Google... that's why I figured this would take care of my problems... of course, I don't know if we're out of the woods yet... but I think it fixed it.. Interesting article

 

UPDATE - It seems to have worked! It ran extremely smooth... no trouble codes... it still has a slight miss under accelleration, however it could be dirty injectors... or something... nothing is throwing codes.... I'm happy.

 

yes it is - but intermittantly.
my idle speed does not compensate whenever i turn on the ac.

the warning about spraying a throttle body was because it could damage a sensor.
may be bum advice that i read - just no tellin'

 

Check the code (as HARI showed) it's in the passenger's side kick panel.... in a little green rubber holder.... and find out what code it's throwing... could be a bad IAC sensor... *shrug* It started hesitating more when I drove it home... I sprayed the throttle body, and got some Valvoline Syn-power Fuel system cleaner... filled it up with 91 octane... see if I can't get it to clean out a bit... THe sensors are definitely an issue, but ... I've never had a problem with it... although I got sensor-safe cleaner... it's just not as potent

 

i have an 88. i just read the led (no green connector).
dont think i have a hesitation on (hard) acceleration (i am still within 600 miles of the rebuild, so i dont want to try that yet).
sounds like your iacv is OK.

seafoam is often recommended from post i have read - have never used it myself.
