Odd RPM Problem
The PCV valve allows air to be drawn from the air cleaner through the crankase into the intake manifold. For 5th gen Civics, maintaining the proper idle speed depends on this flow of air. If the PCV valve or hose or breather hose is clogged, the idle speed will be too low.
Ok. PCV valve is replaced and it seems to be working... I wouldn't say much, but definitely better. It doesn't seem like it's about to die every time I push in the clutch. The upper hose going to the TB was in decent enough condition, but the connector to the TB as well as the hose/grommet thing beneath the valve were atrocious. I was able to clean up the TB connector just fine with some TB cleaner, and I also sprayed it down into the bottom hose, but it still looked pretty bad. I'm sure it isn't clogged, but it's probably still pretty chocked. I'm having trouble finding anything about that hose in the manual. Is that just a grommet or something that I can replace, or should I replace the whole hose, and where is the other end of it, for that matter?
