Default Odometer stuck at 149999 on 95 Civic. Help!?

Hi, I just bought a 95 Civic last Friday and everything was going good 'till today. As I was driving today, I noticed the odometer was stuck at 149,999 miles, the trip odometer doesn't work either. The speedometer still works though. I don't know if this is relevant but my boyfriend just put in new speakers last night, I replaced the battery 3 days ago, and the light for the heating panel occasionally goes out but if you tap it, it will come back on. How do I fix the odometer, and do you think it was tampered with?? Thanks for any help!

I'd recommend that you buy a replacement cluster. Swap the speedo/odo unit into the new cluster to see if it works. This way you may be able to retain the original mileage.

Do you think it was tampered with prior to me buying the car? I bought it from a guy that 'swaps' cars. His name wasn't on the title, but the title was signed over and stated the car had 149,XXX miles on it.

This is rather su****ious. Someone (perhaps even the police) could inspect it to see if the gears have been broken from trying to roll it back. Also you could buy a carfax to see if there's any record of the car having more than 150.000 miles at any time.

Do I just call the police and they'll take the odometer off and inspect it?

I recommend the carfax. And the police won't take it off and inspect it. I work for the police and trust me, they probably don't have the expertise or skill.

def check the carfax, that can get you in trouble if you goto inspections and its the same milage several years in a row lol

If you bought the car from a private seller with no warranty, than theres really nothing you can do about it. This is something you should have looked at during the test drive. It sucks but this is a Buyer Beware world we live in..

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's best if you just move on and fix the car
