Trust, I don't really understand the basis for your comment because Walmart full synthetic 5W30 oil was not included in the oil chart posted by Forty04. A SuperTech blend and petroleum oil was included, but not the SuperTech full synthetic, which probably was not available at the time.

In addition, the Oil Bible cited by Forty04 states that, in general, full synthetic oil will be better than petroleum-based and blend oils. This information, coupled with the low price of Walmart full synthetic, has made it my current motor oil of choice. I am unaware of a test result that indicates my choice was bad. If someone does, please let me know.

Thanks for all the advice. Gonna have timing belt replaced and change over to full synthetic oil. And yes the car is in really good shape inside and out for a 10yr old car with 100k on it from Buffalo, NY.

And again, we all have opinions, but I have used Fram filters for too many years to remember, never a problem, It has always been a question to me as to how Fram got such a bad rep. about the only problem I have ever had is that the gasket (on top of the filter) will sometimes stick to the engine when changing, and I am sure (I don't know) this happens with other filters as well. Fram has treated me very well, and would really like to see some sound documentation where Fram has let someone down. I take great pride in my vehicles . I do agree that if a synthetic is to be used, buy a good brand, but I see no purpose, unless you are going to run it 25K between changes, NOW! that is abuse, good discussion msn
First, I cannot say definitively that you are wrong on all these accounts. And while I also respect your opinions, please be aware that you are making huge general conclusions from anecdotal information derived from a small sample number. For example, from how many Hondas that you have owned are you basing your opinions. Four or five? Additionally, in general, synthetic motor oil will be superior to petroleum-based oil, although as you mention there are a few exceptions. Finally, given that a broken or slipped timing belt on a Civic engine can lead to major engine damage, I am at a loss to understand your recommendation to gamble with a timing belt used beyond the manufacturer's recommendations. On this forum, we regularly hear about members whose timing belt broke or slipped and caused bent valves and damaged pistons.
