Oil and check engine light
I stated in a previous post that the other night my CEL came on out of the blue but the car wasn't really driving differently. I took it to Auto Zone and the code that came up was an emissions code but couldn't give me a definite answer on what that could mean. I drove around for a couple of days and everything seemed fine and then I realized that I was desperately in need of an oil change but didn't have the cash at the time so I just put a quart of oil in to temporarily hold it off. So I did that and drove around and of course the CEL was on, but I wasn't expecting it to go off. Well later in the evening it DID go off, and it's still off. My question is, could being low on oil have an effect on another component that would cause the CEL to come on? I know someone will say "Well did the oil light come on?" but what I'm asking has nothing to do with the oil light.
