Having ruled out a low level, other reasons would include:
1. The engine idles at too low an rpm. You will notice that with the car shaking and possibly stalling though.
2. The engine is worn.
3. The oil has become too thin because it is very old.
4. The oil filter is clogged.
5. The sensor is bad (rare).
Reasons 3 and 4 could be resolved by changing the oil and filter.
