Default Oil use excessive???

I have a 1999 Civic EX with 121K miles since new. The last oil change indicated it was 2 quarts low. I have driven 1200 miles since and I am another quart down. I just replaced the plugs, the old plugs were a light grey/tan with no evidence of an oily film. The car does not piddle on the driveway nor are there any visible leaks when the car is on a lift. Fuel mileage is as good as ever, 29-31 mixed driving. The car does not smoke. Ideas???

Thank you in advance,
Mike

well if there isn't any leaks I would say that maybe your not filling it up all the way.. lol.. I dunno what it would be when you are on the highway drop- it into 4 and put it to the floor and look at the rear mirror for blue..

Thank you for your reply. There is no visible smoke when letting off from high RPMs.

Check your air filter. I doubt you will have 2 quarts of oil hiding in your air filter but if your PCV valve has gone bad, oil could end up in the air filter.

Thank you for the idea concerning the air filter but it's clean. The car was bought new and has been meticulously maintained. I just got rid of an S2000 that used oil(less than 1000miles/qt) but they seem to use oil routinely. The car was on a lift and the tech mentioned how leak free the engine appeared. What type of diagnostics should be performed???

Thank you in advance,
Mike
