I have an issue that I think is pretty common with Hondas....but.....there is a ticking noise coming from inside the engine bay....everyone tells me that the valves need to be adjusted.....some tell me I need an aftermarket valve train......I need some help....has anyone experienced this problem before.....my car is a 1997 Honda Civic HX....My friend has a 91 Accord with the F22a and he has no aftermarket valve train and his doesn't tick....can anyone shine some light on this please.

When was your last oil change?

 

Pull the heat shield cover from the exhaust manifold and check if you have any cracks. You can also try to smell for exhaust fumes around the same area with cold running engine.

 

do u guys have a vsv? My Toyota has one and it literally ticks after idling for about 2 minutes, or is this a mechanical engine type ticking? If thats the case then it could be that you are low on oil like said above.

 

Just go in and set your valves...If someone knows what they are doing it will only take about 30 mins...

 

i no my car has a little tic..but its been there ever since i got the car from the dealership and im pretty sure this one is normal..because my bros Impreza does the same thing and he gets it maintaind at the dealer
