Default Optima battery

Hey, i just put an optima red top battery in my 98 civic, and its a little bigger than the stock battery. Anyone been having any problems with optima batteries? any reasons they might not be good for the car? anything? i appreciate it.

No, I had a yellow top one in my 98 civic and it worked perfectly fine. Their a great investment if you have a lot of extras running off your battery.

Good Luck with your car!

So should i switch the red top for a yellow top? Is it much of a difference? is it the wrong battery?

IMO you should take the red-top back, and switch to the yellow-top type 51 Optima. It's also a "deep cycle" battery (dual purpose) and will probably last longer in the long run since it's made specifically to handle multiple discharges without suffering as much.

The red top is gonna work fine with your car. If it fits in the tray and youve already installed it , dont sweat it. It is still a huge improvement over most other batteries. The yellow top is more expensive and its a deep cycle meaning it can take constantly being drained and recharged. Ive had the same red top in my jeep for 5 years so its not like the red top sucks or anything.

the yellow top is more designed to be a secondary battery for stereo systems anyway. but it does work great as a primary one. but the red top is fine as long as you can fit it in securely.
