Default Painting HX wheels black - how to? pics?

Ok, I want to paint my HX wheels black - I know I need to sand them down, prime them, apply 2-4 light coats and then top it off w/ a clear coat - but a couple of questions to any of yall who have already done this -

1. What grit sandpaper do you use?

2. Do the HX wheels have any sort of clear coat that I need to sand off?

3. Pics?

4. Powdercoating - heard this was another option - where could I get this done and what would it run ($)?

Thanks!

yeah, what he said. Don't try to sand the clearcoat OFF, you will be there all day. You will need to rough it up quite a bit though.

Great write-up - thanks!

Mxs,

What about the backside of the rim - did you paint this as well?

(just trying to gauge how much paint/primer I'll need, because I'm going to need to do the backside of the wheel as well, since my rims will be going from silver to black)

My rims are actually in almost perfect shape - so will all I need is to sand it down fine (there are no scrapes or clear coat chipping)?

Thanks!

I didn't, because I was doing the same color. I would just say, mask off the surface where it mates with the rotor/drum.

OR you could very carefully mask off the lip, leave that silver, and just paint the centers black .
