ok i got a timing light on it today and the dist is all the way to the right if your looking at it from the pass side and thats the closest it will get to tdc i know you have to go to the middle mark though between the three but its about 3 degrees off so ya timing is still way off but that is the closest that i can get it but i am thinking the belt is probably off a tooth or two and plus its a new timing belt so i gotta take it back in and i guess tell them that timing is not matching up and still pinging and timing is about 3 degrees off can you guys check it and i think the belt is off a tooth or so and i think that should fix everything

Yeah, the timing belt is probably off by one tooth.

thats what i figured but to change it a tooth do you have to take the belt off or is there a way of getting the cam to move in the right spot or what?

When you checked the timing, you did have the test connector jumpered, right? The Check Engine light should have been on steady during the test.

Since you paid someone to install the belt just take it back to them and have them deal with it. They should have set the spark timing as part of that job anyway.

If you need to, it should be possible to slip the belt a tooth to adjust it without taking everything apart. The tensioner can be loosened thru a hole in the lower cover without taking the crank pulley or the lower cover off. I think you'd need to remove the cam pulley, reposition the belt on it, then put the cam pulley back on. If you have the tools to remove the crank pulley it may be simpler to just do that.
