Default Question on Distributor

On the 97 D16 Y8 motor inside the distributor is a TDC sensor. Is there any way to test that sensor to make sure its good?

Typically, if the sensor is bad, your Check Engine Light should be ON, and you should retrieve a code indicating a fault with the TDC circuit.

I have a 98 and my sensor went a few months ago. I just had it replaced yesterday and was told the sensor is behind the timing belt shield. So they did a needed timing belt/water pump change.

Funny thing is now, the CEL is back on with a P1361 code. WTH?!?!?

The top dead center (TDC) sensor is inside of the distributor. If the TDC sensor is bad (possibly indicated by P1361), you need to replace the entire distributor assembly.

The crankshaft speed fluctuation (CKF) sensor is behind the timing belt shield.

Thank you for the clarification...another question for you, what type of distributor do I have?? I'm trying to source one so I can put it in, but there are two kinds showing up.

The distributor should match with the engine. The picture shows where to find the number for your engine type.
