Quick emissions question (curious)
So im wondering, the guys that run turbos, ecu conversions, and 3inch exhuasts with hi flow cats...is it even feasible to pass an emissions test with all this stuff? I live in Colorado where we need a test every twoyrs with tag renewal.
ECU conversions no...if you are obd2 and you have an obd1 conversion most places you wont pass smog...exhaust as long as you havea 50 state legal high flow cat or a stock one you can have aftermarket piping....turbo you should be cool as long as you have a cat in your exhaust and you havent eliminated any sensors or have obnvious simulators in....the older your car is the easier to pass because they dont plug in alot of older cars so you just have to pass the actual emmisions and not be subject to a simulator or failed sensor issue
if you boost, the easiest route for tuningwould be an OBD1 conversion, then you might not be smog legal like powermidget said. As far as cats go, if you get a Magnaflow or Randoms high-flow cat you should be good, or you can just keep the stock one, you honestly dont get that big of a gain off it ya know?
depending on your state law, you can pass smog. as for the turbo, no. you will never pass visual inspection. i live in ca, and they have the strickest laws in the world. and i have a ecu conversion from obd0 to obd 1. but one thing i do know, is that you can not downgrade the year of your motor. if you have a 94 civic, the motor/ecu that you replace it with better be 94 or newer. you cant put a 93 in to your car. but for everything else, as long as it says "50 states leagal," or has a C.A.R.B number, than you should be good. hope it helps
