Default replacing the gear shift sleeve

I don't know if this has been covered before but I am needing some help so be patient!! I am borrowing a friend's 97 Civic Lx 5sp and I need to replace the gear shift **** and the vinyl cover/sleeve as its torn and the former has been slightly chewed. Removing the **** is a no brainer - twist it off.... but does anyone know how to replace the vinyl sleeve thing and what do I have to remove (and how?). I am not familiar with Hondas that is why I am asking!! Any help is very much appreciated!!
