Yeah, I had the same problem. Tt's definately the throttle cable, just fixed it recently. Right near the intake manifold there is the throttle cable mounted with a bolt, just tighten it to give a little less slack. Whats actually happening is there is slack in between where the car actually picks up and the place where the gas pedal is sitting (on the bolt). Hope this helps.

Well, you guys were right. Slack in the throttle cable was the problem. Thanks to all who responded for their help. Now the gas pedal response is normal after tightening up the throttle cable a little bit. Check out my little blog if you need details and photos or send me a message.
