Default seized gas door release

hey guys
i have an issue with my gas door release on my 2000 hatch
the release beside the drivers side seat is seized i believe, because the little tab that the release moves by the gas door is stuck in a recessed position. thereby preventing my gas door from closing! i am going to dig up my haynes manual and see how to trace that cable from the release to the door and try to unjam it (i think that is the only way to go).

just curious if anyone else has seen this problem before..its a pain in the ***

any help or suggestions would be appreciated

take the cover off it and simply spray it down with some WD-40 around the cable...
its probably just sticking.
