Default short shifter install question

I was reading over the diy for the short shifter and in this pic it shows these broken rubber grommets at the base of the shifter, I was just wondering if you need those when you put in the new short shifter or if you can just bolt the shifter onto the linkage without them

thanks

it would prolly be a good idea to keep those in there or else it'll be metal rubbing on metal everytime you shift.

i would keep them if the outter ring is peeled back then its not to bad thats just the outter... the inner rubber is what mainly counts. definatly put them back in.
and i would also sugest before lowering the car get into the car and slap the shifter around thru the gears and make sure there is no binding.

I would pick them. They are gonna help reduce friction

what?

the grommet is there to hold the shifter, protect it from any dirt or unnecessary friction from anything or from any wear down

No...
Unless you bought a really low quality shifter, it should include all the needed rubber fittings and o-rings. I threw mine out and put the new ones in.

What shifter do u have?
