Spark Plug burned with oil
My 2002 civic started loosing power and the check engine light came on. The scanner says the number 2 spark plug is miss firing. When I removed the spark plug it was burned with oil. Does anyone knows what could be wrong with the engine? Could it be the valve seal or the ring? Please help!!!!!!
well first change all the spark plugs and make sure it has a spark there..... if the plug has been missing for awhile it can get deposits on it over time.
but hard to know whats actually leaking.... could be piston rings or valve seals leaking oil past them into the cylinder.
if its not to bad just be sure to remove the plug and clean it every now and then. thats what i did on my old impala with it leaking oil.

Like addiction said, this is kind of a chicken and egg situation. You don't know if the plug started to misfire and then crud got on it, or if the oil came first. So the first thing to do is change the plugs and drive for a while and see if misfiring continues.
Also you could have a bad coil on that plug (I think the '02 has distributorless, right?). If it does misfire, switch the #2 coil with one of the others and see if the problem follows it. Do not drive long with the engine misfiring because that can burn up your catalytic converter.

+1. If your plug has enough oil on it to be wet with oil you have a problem and should do a leak down and compression test asap. Are you sure it was not just carbon build up or unburned fuel?
