Speedo Not Workin??

Default Speedo Not Workin??

I am getting this 96 civic dx and the speedo does not work but everything else works like rpm and ****. Is this a bad fix or something not hard???

Could be a number of things. Could be the speedo itself (and you would grab a junkyard cluster to swap out to fix this). Could be the wiring harness (just trace wires and look for a problem.) Could be the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

Alot of ppl said it was the VSS I was gonna try that first

does the tripmeter and odometer work? If they work then its probably not the VSS.

When that happened to me it was the cluster itself.
sometimes it would work (for like 2 min), and most of the time it wouldnt(like 99% of the time).
i swapped the speedometer and it fixed it.

I went to the junkyard and got the speedometer for 14 bucks.

do you have to get the whole dash cuz it was out of a auto 96 cuz the coupe 5 speed didnt have a tach

nah man just take the speedometer part
its only a few screws u take off from the back of the cluster if i remember correctly.


If the odometer and tripmeter work, then that means your VSS is working, because they get the signal from the vss as well.

That should do it...
If not you can just return the speedometer to the junkyard, or at least we get 30 days over here...
