Default Speedometer issues

HiI have a 93 Honda Civic CX 5spd. With approx. 350+ kms on it. I say approx. since I am on my 3rd speedometer. The first lasted about 100k and the others about the same. When they don't work neither does the odometer so I don't know exactly how many kms are on it which I wish wasn't so since I would like to keep track of the mileage on my little car. It can work, just with out warning. Last weekend it worked both ways on a 3 1/2 hr trip but this week nothing. The needle just lays there, and then suddenly works for an unspecified length of time or it jumps around erraticly first. The Honda dealership has never been of any help other than to suggest buying a new one which is just too much for this little car and my little wallet. There has to be some underlying reason for 3 of them to go I would think. It is electronic, not cable btw. I have no repair abilities on my own but am hoping for some answers or at least good leads on what to look into next so any help would be great. Thanx!

Check whether under-dash fuse 24 (15A) is loose or its contacts are corroded.
