Default Speedometer Problem

Hey everyone. My son has a 1995 Civic Hatchback. Speedometer works sometimes. Seems to be after the car has run for 15min or so then the speedometer will start working. Turn the car off then it will take awhile to start working again. Any idea??

knew it was there, but did not realize it could be cleaned. How would I go about that?

thanks...lol
try taking the sensor off and checking for any rust or anything that would prevent it from sending out the speed maybe?
I know in automatic TRANSMISSIONS (lol) there's a little spring with a little metal rod in the middle that jumps out at you when you take the sensor off.... or so i remember.

so it works everytime but it takes 15 min after you turn the car on for it to read the speed?

First, watch if the odometer keeps rolling while the car is moving and the speedometer says zero. If it does, the sensor is OK and the problem is the speedometer itself.

When the sensor is not working, the CEL should eventually light. It is triggered by rolling down a hill in gear with your foot off the gas.

Cleaning the sensor is just to clean the electrical plug and check it for corrosion.
