speedometer problem with CEL on

Default speedometer problem with CEL on

ok my speedometer stopped workin and acts crazy sometimes and my CEL came on. got a 95 ex and wanted to knw how to check for the code/s. i change the speed sensor on the tranny, wasn't it. my friend says it could be a short. NEED HELP GUYS!

The pins in the sensor plug could be corroded or otherwise not making good contact. If you have code 17 it's something with the sensor, not the speedometer head.

To check codes, find the 2 wire test plug on the right side panel of the car, it is where the carpet ends under the dash. Jumper the pins in the plug then turn the key on but don't start. Count the blinks of the CEL (if CEL comes on steady, there are no codes stored). See the sticky post at the top of this forum for code numbers.

thanks for the help... it was easier then i thought it ended up being the VSS... i know i said i had switched it but the reason it wasn't workin was cuz i forgot to connect the wire harness back to it... lmao!!!
