Speedometer Stuck?
Hey guys. I have a 1996 Honda Civic EX 5 Speed coupe. For some time now, my speedometer has been stuck at 20 MPH. If I turn my key twice (car not on), my speedometer shoots up to 20 MPH. When I'm driving, it will either stick at 20 MPH or 0. It will only work on rare occassions. What I would like to know, is do I need a whole new speedometer gauge or could it just be the speedometer sensor?
I have to go in for emissions by the 6th of this month (I know, I know. I waited until the last minute...haha) and I just don't want to fail the emissions test. Any help here or a link to the product on another website would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much guys...

i dont think it will cause you to fial emissions, but this has been a fairly common problem with Civics it seems like. Mine, as well as others peoples, speedometers have acted up from time to time, it's probably just the gauge cluster though. See if you can find a new cluster on ebay for faily cheap, replacing it is litterlally 6 screws and 3 harnesses, its real easy.
OK. Thanks you sir. I really don't care if my speedometer doesn't work (for myself). The only thing I'm a little concerned about is emissions. I just don't want to fail and have to deal with testing again. My odometer has moved maybe 500 miles in a couple of years now...haha. Don't worry, I'm not going to sell it to anyone. I'm just going to drive it into the ground, so I would never rip anyone off.
A buddy of mine also thinks I'll be fine with emissions, but to have a second opinions helps. Thanks a lot man...
