Default SRS Light Came on

I have a 98 civic dx with about 120K miles on it and a few days ago my SRS light came on on the dashboard. Can someone tell me what the problem could be? This is the first time its ever come on since I purchased the car brand new. I called the dealer and they said it will cost $90 to diagnose and make cost anywhere up to $600 at the most to fix depending on what the problem is. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

SRS is the safety restraint system......the airbag system.

Well I don't know why mine is on because I have airbags. I guess I need to look into this.

I'm pretty sure you can pull the SRS code the same way you pull a CEL, but don't hold me to that. When I pulled my CEL the other day I noticed my SRS light started blinking codes (it's come on before but has turned itself off). Check out the DIY section, I wrote up a DIY, and try it out, and we'll see if we can't find what the codes mean.
