Hey everyone!!!

Im new to this forum so i hope you can help me. I recently purchased an 01 civic dx. Just today, after very careful driving and babying, i started hearing a whining noise, very loud, when i turn my wheel and when i begin to accelerate. Its a whine that lasts through 3rd but it gets very quiet after 3rd. when im stopping or decelerating it goes away. Im thinking it could be the power steering pump maybe but would that make a noise through the gears? I should also mention its an automatic trans. and ive babied the heck out of her since ive had her so i know its nothing that ive done. any help would be awesome

 

Have you checked the power steering fluid level? Add only Honda fluid if it is low. A lot of third-party fluid is specifically incompatible with Honda systems.

 

yeah it was a bit low. just under the lower line for acceptable amount. I will get more fluid today though just in case.

 

Update... I got some serious lucas stop leak and it has since stopped whining! just hardened rubber seals on the power steering line that leaked a bit.
