Default Strange find in engine bay.

Hi all,

I've had my car now for about a year, always though it had a d16z6 engine but I know my car has had a shady past and a rough up bringing as I've spent loadsa cash replacing stuff like alternators, cv's and so on, its had 10 previous owners since 95, I've heard loadsa stories about it in the city that I live, I heard that it used to have a b16 in it, and the garage I bought it from said that before they bought it a garage they use put a d16z6 back in it cause the guy was selling the b16 to his mate. I looked at the head and it did say d16z6 on the code so thought no more of it. The other day I was playin about looking at how to fit my angel eyes and noticed a sticker on the block so I pulled it off and underneath was the engine code d16a2, so my questions are does a z6 head fit on the d16a2, how can I check the vtec is working fine, and how come a tranny of a d16z6 fitted the block as I had to get a second hand gearbox as my first one was not going into reverse without some propa force. Is there any advantages of having a d16a2 with z6 head as I was gonna turbo the "engine" in my car but now will I need to get a turbo mani that fits the d16a2 or are they litterally the same, still reckon I might jus go with a b16 swap as a local garage has offered me a b16a2 for 800GBP. Any replies would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Graeme

The pic below is of my car how it looks now.

800GBP is around $1405US, which is a great price for a B16A2 swap.

Hi ngoti8tor,

The thing is here in the uk, b16's were put in the vti model which I'm sure you know, so they are in loadsa scrap yards being left about like a used condom, an I only spent like 10 mins ringing garages and scrap yards and found like 3 b16's all for under 1000GBP, I posted on here about a h22 I was offered for 500GBP but dint want it. Gonna get a b16 me thinks though. Jus gotta find myself a quick grand which wont be easy, we get the engines cheap over here but its the petrol that kills my wallet.

Here's a pic from the front of my car.

Cheers

Sounds like the U.K. is an untapped resource. You can't find b16's in decent shape at any scrapyards here

Hey Graeme54, what body kit is that on your car? Is that a front piece or just a lip added on?

Hi,

It was a lip that was made to go on a coupe as the 4dr has a different front bumper, so I had to take it to a local body shop and they cut it down and molded it into the front bumper, I realy liked the standard front bumper an thought that this made it look alot better, an I ant seen any other 4dr's with it on, that back bumper is a buddy club 2 by aerotrenz but its fibreglass an now wish that I had paid that little bit more and got the hardened plastic one, same with side skirts that are gmg by aerotrenz, there's a pic from the side below. Just still got to put my angel eyes on, will get up a pic once they are done

Cheers
