Default Swapping parts from 95 to 99?

I have a 95 EX with a D16z6 but the engine's broke. Are any parts form it interchangeable to a 99 DX HB with a D16y7? Like intake, exhaust manifold, ect. Looking to improve the D16y7 as much as i can.

whats wrong with the d16z6 because if it's just damage to the block you might be able to do a mini-me swap and thus essentially make your 99 dx a 99 ex

Heard some loud knocking in the head and i think it dropped a valve. So the crank is probably toast. The engine stopped while driving.

the only thing that you can use to improve the y7 is the z6 had but you will need to use the z6 distributor and buy a conversion harness from rywire.com that will allow you to use the 0bd1 z6 distributor with the obd2 civic. i say to part out the 95 civic and use the money from the part out to build your 99. buy a y8 head and distributor and convert your car from nonvtec to vtec you will also need the ecu from 99-00 civic ex. another thing you can do is get the intake manifold from a 96-00 civic ex (y8).

Thanks for the advice. I thought I might need some type of harness adaptor if I make it Vtec.

to make vtec work once you install the head and the vtec ecu you just run 2 wires from the vtec solnoid to the ecu yourself. there is no special harness.

the conversion harness i mentioned above is if you decide to use the d16z6 head (its obd1) and your car is obd2 so the distributor will not just plug up and will require a conversion plug for it to work.
