Default Timing Belt Question

I have a question on changing the timing belt. A mechanic at Jiffy Lube told us that we should change our timing belt at 60k mileage. Our civic as about 75k. Also in the car manual from honda says the same thing. However i have always known from my research and many from this forum that the timing belt should be changed when the car is around 99-100k+ mileage.

Do you guys think its ok if our car went another 20-25k mileage before we change it or we should do now immediately?

btw its a 02 civic lx with a d17a1 engine

i agree i would go ahead and swap it out before its a problem. if you can do it yourself you could save quite a bit of cash but if money is tight i might wait alittle longer or just save up a bit. but either way you should pull off the top timing belt cover to inspect the belt. if you cannt see strong ribbs on the inside of the belt id swap it out soon.

i got lucky with my 99 and the belt looks brand new so i left it alone. but the one on my 94civic was almost smooth!

Your profile doesn't say where you're located, but for most places in USA I would go by the owner's manual.

If you live in the desert & theunderhood temperature is always really hot, maybe change it early. If your engine spends most of it's life above 5000 rpm, then change it early.

Why risk it, just change it. Anyways is only like 50 bucks if you can do it yourself.
