Default RE: Timing Belt Snapped..

About two weeks ago my timing belt slipped about three teeth and I am in the process of getting a remanufactured head fully assembled for $375 from a place in Florida called Clearwater and should get it in monday next week. When my timing belt slipped, it messed my valves up and the engine wouldnt hold air pressure because of the bent valves. If your timing belt BROKE, I would say you are going to need a new head for sure and possibly damaged your pistons. It is definitely not fun taking the head off because you have to take the exhaust manifold and intake off the head and there just isnt a lot of room, but hey at least you CAN work on them. If you do need a new head, the phone number for the Clearwater place is 1-800-572-1963. Good luck.

you still havn't verfied that the belt broke.... it's not a difficult task to find out, you could remove the valve cover to gain access to the belt, or just take the oil cap off and look at the rockers while a friend cranks the engine. do that before you start jumping to conclusions. and btw bigdan, a slipped timing belt is MUCH more likely to cause damage to valves than a broken belt. valve timing events are based very closely on piston position, so slipping even one tooth can cause the valve and piston to try to occupy the same spot in your combustion chamger, and because they are timed from the same crank, every piston then slams into every valve in every cylinder. a broken belt however has to break with a valve open enough for the piston to contact it. and even then, it's usually only two valves per cylinder in two of your four cylinders. it's not impossible to destroy your head completely, but not as common.
