Default tranny issue?

the other day I left my AT civic at the shop while I was at work because of a problem I was having on the way in. The car seemed to "burp" when accelerating to high speed.... it seemed to shake back and forth as if something was not catching. The mechanic said that it sounded like a spark plug issue. When I returned later in the day, he said that he had taken the car out and had put it through the ringer trying to get the car to have the problem. no luck. he said that a spark plug may have gotten wet, due to a hurricane that had passed through the night before. Sure enough, I drove all weekend and did not experience the problem... the other night it started to happen again, with no recent rain... I noticed that in 4th gear, at 70 - 80 mph, and around 3500 rpm, I was having the problem... the tach DOES shake a little during the problem, but I don't experience the problem in any other gear, nor when I am driving 60 - 65 mph.... what do you think? new tranny? or new spark plugs and wires? or something else. it is not the kind of shake that you experience at high speed when the wheels are out of alignment....

Unfortunately, that is one of those weird issues that are hard to diagnose, usually present in AT vehicles. Our family mini-van had similar issues and no one has yet to be able to figure it out. The concensus is that it is the torque converter, but that does not sound like the case with your car.
