Default tranny struggle

i have an automatic 2000 honda civic ex the car drives well on the road but i have noticed that at around 4k rmp before it shifts it kinda struggles to. it would stay at 4k rpm for about 3 -4 secounds it never did that when i first bought the car. This is on a flat road too.i have no clue what the problem is. So if anyone could please inform me of what the problem could be i would really apreciate it very much.

first things first. With the car running, check your transmission fluid level. If it's low, top it up. While you have the dipstick pulled out, have a look at the color - it should be a bright cherry red (if its brand new fluid). If its a brown color I would recommend a transmission fluid & filter change. Finally also check the smell of it. If it smells kinda like burned toast, again a fluid & filter change is recommended.
