The light did stay on the whole time. I didn't check the code on the O2 sensor...but the other day when I had the map sensor unplugged i checked the code just to be sure and sure enough got the code for the map sensor.
To MK:
He said the timing was good. When the speedo isn't working the odometer isn't working either. I'll try the dead cylinder check as well and see what happens.

They were very similar...just the one that had the good parts was just a little bigger than the one that came off my car.

The speedometer and odometer don't work most of the time and also no CEL code is thrown when the VSS is disconnected. This suggests to me that the ECU is either not receiving a proper VSS signal or is itself bad. Check the VSS power wire for battery voltage, the VSS ground wire for continuity to ground, and the VSS signal wire that runs to the ECU and cluster for an open or short.

Ok...my wife was driving the car home from work...maybe a 2 mile drive. She said at one point it acted like it didn't want to get over 2k rpms. While she was driving it trying to hold a steady speed, it started kinda jerking around on her. I'm still not convinced on the timing...I don't know alot about that stuff so I'm gonna get someone else to look at it.

So, running OK now? One tooth off is all it takes to run badly. I couldn't imagine 4. Your other guy must have been reading the marks wrong.

My car is finally fixed. Runs like a dream. He was just pulling the distributor off and turning it....he didn't take off the valve cover or timing cover.
