Default Tuning up my 2000 HX & a few other things I'd like to do

Need to do a tune up & a few other things on my 2000 HX with 176k miles. Also want to change the fluid out of the 5 speed tranny. Also ordering my AEM SRI from www.summitracing.com
Few Q's:
*What spark plugs are recommended?
*Should I change the wires also since they have 176k miles?
*Where is the cheapest place to order the lower bank oxygen sensor?
*What oil does everyone use for the transmission fluid & how many quarts?

I have a 98 LX Manual. I presume by your post that when you say 5 speed, you mean a manual. I can answer ?s #1 and #4.

I believe that NGK is a japanese OEM type plugs. they come pre-gapped for the civic. not very expensive either. I have been using whatever is cheapest and haven't had any problems.

Regarding the transmission fluid, honda recommends using their own MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid). I believe it takes a quart but double check your specs in your manual.

The repair guys that I took it to said that the MTF that honda sells is compatible with 10W40 motor oil so they replaced it with a quart of 10W40 motor oil. haven't had any problems with it. I had it done at around 90k miles. This is your call. I would double check with a reputable guy about this compatibility. The repair shop that I went to goes to great lengths to be accurate and will not put fluid in my car that is clearly not up to spec.

The wires, I would guess that most people here would recommend changing them by now but I'm going strong with the oems at 113k miles right now.

Use Honda MTF as almost any other oil may damage critical seals in the transmission.

I would recommend using the NGK iridium spark plugs, since you are doing a tune up, might as well swap out the wires also, you can replace the cap and rotor, distributor. for the oxygen sensor i would get them from the dealers, not sure where it can be bought cheap. and for for the transmission fluid you should go with the ones from the dealers, don't want to mess up the trans. not sure exactly how many quarts but i am thinking about 4-5, some one on here can confirm on that

Don't forget the valve adjustment!

Hey, what kinda mpg do you get? I get 44 mpg weekly tanks, driving 65 mph to work, weekends city driving.
