You really need to look at it more closely, as they are off set just enough that they can get broken off. Also, the end of the cam has that slot off set too. So if you match the offsets, you should be in the correct location. But, we also verified it by having #1 cylinder up, and the rotor pointing at #1 plug wire. Kind of hard to be off when you do that too.

As the guys on the Accord forum why they would break off, as quite a few people have had that happen from not correctly aligning the drive dogs.

I can see the threads on the accord forum about those breaking off, but having personally installed it that way on a civic and nothing breaking I'm a bit dumbfounded why it ever went in that way if it's properly designed.

Kind of like on some Toyota engines got the same style drive, while others got a gear drive on the end (like Dodge uses on their V8's). I'll never understand it.
However, since I also work on air cooled VWs, I'm used to the offset drive and ear combo, as they use them too, so I look out for that kind of thing just to make sure it's going back together like it came apart.

I think he's finally given up on it. I haven't seen him work on it in over 3 weeks. He at least pushed it out of my garage, and parked it outside. I don't know what his next plan is, but it'll probably be working on something else instead.
At least I can work on some of my stuff I have around here now. Thanks for all of the help I/we didn't get. It's still Dead on it's axles.
