Default VSS, Speedo and Shifting

I was just wondering if a faulty VSS senor will effect how the transmission shifts. My speedo become irractic and dies sometimes. When it drops to zero it seems that my tranny will not shift into D4 unitl the speedo restores it normal signal.

Yes, the automatic in later models is controlled by computer, and it needs the signal from the VSS.

Double check that the connection to the VSS is secure first. But most likely it is the sensor itself.
