vtec oil pressure sensor

Hey guys super quick question regarding a b16a2, Are both oil pressure sensors (vtec housing, and rear of block) needed for vtec to trigger? Currently only have the one on the vtec housing connected and I'm curious if I need to throw one in the rear of the block to get vtec functioning?
