Hi,
I have a 97 Civic LX MT D16Y7 that recently began to get random misfires although they aren't that random. The car starts easily in the morning and idles normally. I drive for about 1 to 2 minutes and I get a 10 second period of no acceleration. I got a P1300 code for a random misfire. It occurs between 2000 and 2500 rpms. I usually shift to a higher gear and get the rpm's up and the problem goes away. The rest of the drive is unremarkable and the car idles normally. What is going on? I just replaced the rotor, cap, wires and air filter. The plugs had normal gaps and were slightly brown/black. They should be about 25000 miles from replacement. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Remove the coil and ICM from the distributor. If you have a multimeter, you can test the coil. Otherwise, take both to an auto parts store for testing.
