I tried to get a video of it. You can just barely hear the sound with the volume turned up @ 8 seconds where I lift off – I don’t want to mess things up anymore!!

It’s what I’d describe as a “rustling” noise… No typical knocks or whines. There’s also a serious loss of power.

It happens when I’m travelling, the engine is warm (I’ve not tried it cold), my foot is to the floor and revs reach about 4k.

It doesn’t happen in neutral or with the clutch pressed down – I thought at first it could be this slipping but a couple of tests prove otherwise…

I’ve had a new steering pump and high pressure hoses between this and the rack only a couple of months ago, if that may be of any help?

Engine is a standard year 2000 D16Y7 (non VTEC), only covered 50k miles and has always been serviced, but the next is due in 6 weeks along with MOT.

Any advice?

Yeah, I couldn't really hear the noise. Are you sure it isn't a harmonic vibration making something in the engine bay vibrate, like a heat shield? Or perhaps an alignment problem causing a similar harmonic?
