Where exactly IS the heater core? Can I access it to see if it is indeed leaking without tearing the dash apart?

Also, I've noticed that the mats were still damp, IF NOT MORE DAMP, even after the car had been sitting for a few days... which would lead me to believe that it's not the heater core... HELP!

I cant see anything rusting on a 98 but check ur floor pans and you may want to pull the carpet up and check under it and try to see if there is liquid settling on teh metal part, but it does sound like a heater core..
