Default What oil for my Civic 6 generation (96-01)

Hi Guys

My civic is going old so I have decided to do the service myself. I've done it before but not in this car.

The thing is, in the owner's manual book I can't find the proper specs I think, it only says "Always use a fuel efficient oil, API service SG, SH or SJ". It doesn't say anything about fully synthetic, part synthetic, or anything else.

With so many supermarkets selling engine oil at cheap prices I wonder if it is suitable to use it instead of a branded oil. I've used some of this supermarket oil in a VW Polo i had in the past without any problem.

Any help will be welcome

As long as it's 5w-30, you should be fine. Lots of people run full synthetic with no problems. I've run all kinds of brands of regular oil, myself. (Also, 6th generation is 96-2000.)
