Default What would cause quick squeal after upshifts in a 96 Civic?

I have a '96 Civic with a manual transmission. After I shift to a higher gear there is a short squealing noise that sounds like it is coming from the front driver's side of the engine. It is louder when I am heavy on the throttle.

I have searched for this and a lot of people report squeaky clutches, but that is not my problem. The sound happens after I have completely released the clutch, and lasts for maybe 1 second each time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Loose belts, particularly the alternator belt. If you've been using the A/C turn it off to rule that out (that also lessens the load on the alternator).

Awesome, thank you mk. I'll check the belts tonight.
