Wheel bearing??
Wussup everyone. I drive a 98 civic hatch and recently i've noticed a high pitched squeak that comes from the front driver side tire. If i keep driving it later turns into a "metal rubbing" sound. The sound gets louder when i turn the wheel to the left, but only while the car is in motion. It does not make noise if the car is at a stand still whether i turn the wheel or not. I have not noticed any unusual shaking in the steering wheel. What do you think this can be?
Does the noise change / go away when you step on the brakes lightly? If so it is probably the squeaker spring telling you that the brake pads are worn out.
Another common noise from a front wheel involves the sheet metal behind the brake rotor getting rusted or bent and dragging on the rotor. Noise from a wheel bearing is more of a constant roar that is proportional to speed and gets worse when you turn away from the affected side (because the weight of the car shifts to the outside of a turn, putting more weight on the bad bearing.)
