Default whining tranny

Okay, here's the deal. Today I replaced my transmission and clutch. The Transmission is a Y8 trans with a XTD stg 2 clutch on a D16Y7 block. Once I got done, I was driving home, and about 15 miles after I began driving it I felt a thud (felt like the motor blew up) and a loud whining sound started happening. The noise gets louder as I accelerate and lower as I decelerate. It does it quietly in neutral (I can't hear it inside the car, but I can hear it when I'm outside of the car). I have not yet swapped out the master and slave cylinders. My starter began making a horrible noise when I start it up from the first time we cranked the car after putting the tranny back on (not sure if that is significant, but maybe it is).

Maybe pulling out the starter and carefully inspecting it would be worthwhile. Did you possibly wire it incorrectly?

its wired correctly. the whining quit after driving it a little more earlier, but the starter is still making the noise.
