Default window works randomly can't figure it out

Okay so randomly it will work and then it will just stop working altogether. It's the drive side window. First I thought the switch might be dirty so i took that apart and cleaned it really good. Then I took out the motor for thand hooked it up and it worked fine. When i put it back in the car it worked for like two seconds then stopped. I don't know what could cause this my only guess is maybe the motor is going bad. Because it seems like it fails when it's under a load. But I don't want to go get a new one before i know for sure what the problem is. Are the driver side and passenger motors interchangeable I was thinking maybe i could test it if they were.

Could be either a bad switch or motor. Start by supplying direct power to the motor to see whether it functions properly. Also spray some silicone lubricant into the window side channels to reduce the problem of binding.

yeah I was planning on spraying silicone next to reduce binding. I did take it out and connected it to the switch and it worked fine. I messed around with it trying to give it a load and stuff to see if it was failing under a load and it seemed fine and then I put it back in then it didn't work. Are you saying connect it directly while it's installed? What is the easiest way to do that Should I just mess around probing into the connector with wires? When these windows go bad is it usually just the switch or the motor or is there another relay or something that they go through that could possibly be bad?

As only the driver's window is problematic, the switch or motor is likely the culprit. Yes, you want to test the window motor with the window/motor/regulator installed in the door and the door panel removed. Run hot and ground wires directly from the battery. Changing polarity of the wires will cause the window to go UP versus DOWN. If the window operates properly under these conditions, then the switch is probably bad. There are specific tests that can be done on the switch if you have or can get a basic $15-$20 digital multimeter. What year/model Civic?
