Default Wipers help

I think I know the problem is, but I'm looking for a second opinion. I have a 2000 Civic EX 4 door coupe, and the wipers only work on fast. When I turn the switch on to intemit. I can hear a click, but nothing happens. When I turn it to slow, again nothing happens. But they work on fast. I think it's a bad switch, but before I spend the $95 to replace it, I'd like to see if it could be something else.

Thanks for the help.

Could be the motor. Turn the key on, turn switch to low, go under the hood and measure voltage to see if there is power going to the motor. I think you want to measure between the green-black wire and the blue one, though I don't have a diagram of the 2000 model here. If you find one of RonJ's posts you can download manuals from the links in his signature.

Also you could try the low tech approach of just hit the motor while the switch is on and see if the wipers start. If so, bad motor.

If you pull the lever down for a single wipe and release it when they are halfway up, do the wipers immediately stop there or do they continue to the bottom then stop like they should?

As soon as I let the lever go, they stop. I have to pull the lever down to get them to move again. I haven't put the volt meter on it yet, but plan on doing that tomorrow.

It does sound like the low speed circuit in the motor is not working. Another low-tech test would be to buy a new motor from a place that lets you return it. Plug it in for a test without fully installing it and see if it runs on both high and low.

Ok, thanks. I'll look around for a motor.
Thanks for the help.

Wink

Tested the motor and found out it was still good. Replaced the switch and everything works great.

Thanks for the help.
