Default 120,000 Mile Dealer Trick?

I drive a 2000 Honda Civic that just reached 120,000 miles. As soon as it hit that mark, my check engine light went on. Some friends of mine tell me that this is a way dealers get you to come back in. Is there any truth to this? And, how do you reset that light?

there's no possible way they can do this!
bring it in and get it checked out, it's there for a reason - anyone with a code reader can tell why you it's on

Well, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it is in fact a "trick" seeing as the light came on right after such a round number. The chances of a problem occuring exactly when the odometer touches 120,000 are pretty slim (but not 0).
