Seems like all the answers I need are here, so I signed up. I have a '97 Civic EX sedan and my wife has a '98 of the same. Recently, things have started falling apart on her car, so I've taken to doing the work myself wherever possible. Being a computer tech, I'm surprised at how much easier it can be to troubleshoot and work on cars than computers, since the majority of it seems to be time and muscle. Granted, I have little of either (:P) but I'm willing to give it a shot. Swapped out her radiator this weekend and still having overheating issues, so here I am. I'll probably be trolling (not the bad kind) the forums a lot looking for answers.

Regarding the overheating issue, I am assuming you have properly bled the coolant system of any air that could have been in there?

 

Hi,

Check for leaks when u park the car.
If it leaks locate it and fix it.

Does the fan work when u overheat it?
if not the temp sensor could be damaged. Or the fan.
Check those wires that powers them

Or maybe the water pump is damaged
Check the presure when the engine runs on the hoses on the radiator.
If thats the problem I dont think u can fix the uself.

actualy I have never seen a Civic that has problems with cooling.
The problem can't be that big

^^^ What he said. I've never had any overheating issues with any of the Civics I've had....Perhaps the thermostat could be sticking, or it could be something as simple as a radiator cap.

Post up if you find anything.

 

I posted in general help about it. I replaced the thermostat, radiator, hoses, and finally the fan switch. So far, it hasn't overheated again since replacing the switch, but the weather cooled down considerably the day I "fixed" it, so it remains to be seen whether it's truly fixed. The day I replaced the fan switch, I could not get it to overheat again, but I never saw the fan come on either, so who knows. It's a waiting game now.
