Question Hello from New Mexico, USA

Hello all from the sunny state of New Mexico - car lover's dream state! Firstly, I'm not a fuel-injected mechanic (I say that because I can do most repairs on a '69 VW microbus). My first (4) cars were '69 VW coombies. My second car was a '90 Acura. This, my 4th car, is an '89 Civic DX. Ol' Ruby just quit today. We're thinking its the fuel pump - 'cuz we're optimists (and we've got $6.78 in the bank). Anyways - what can I expect to be doing after we tow Ruby back home? BTW, my 3rd 'car' is an '84 Dodge Ram 360 hp 5.9L converted to 'shorty bus' that I've dealt with fuel filter/pump issues almost yearly). Can I 'test' the filter by unhooking it as I do with Fester the Festering Festival Bus? Any tricks y'all can send my way pertaining to the fuel problem we're experiencing? Any help would be great, as I'm really starting at rock bottom experience-wise. Thanks in advance!
P.S. Ruby is a red Civic.

edit: sorry, guys and gals, for putting tech questions in the intro forum - I'll put the Tech q's in their proper place!
