Hi all, straight in with a question
I have a 1984 California spec Civic with switchable 4wd.
The engine is an EW1 1500cc 12 valve and its a bit smokey having done 14 years on the same oil!!!
Thats right, the owner never had it serviced, just kept topping it up needless to say it uses quite a bit of oil these days.
Right now on with the questions, which engines will mate to the transmission where an EW1 engine used to live ?
Later models of this car were 1600cc but I havent been able to find out the engine type.
I have my eye on serveral engines on ebay, would be nice to have a 1600 Vtec on some nice big carbs but
I'd like to ensure its going to fit in the engine bay first.
Thanks

Its a hell of an advert for how well these things are put together though, even the most basic maintenance had been avoided and the thing is still running.
Weigh up the cost of 14 annual services and what you could do with the money instead ?
Not sure where to go with it now though, don't fancy rebuilding the engine, that would cost more than buying a second hand Vtec and lets face it not many people get up early for the thrill of a 1500 SOHC engine, especially with the California spec emission control.
As for being put to sleep, if you get stuck in traffic the fumes would put you to sleep, permanently!
I might just steam in and buy an engine with the intention of making it fit or destroying the car in the process.
I'm fairly familiar with engine swaps, theres a Ford Sierra outside my house with a 3500cc Rover V8
Haynes don't seem to do a Civic 4wd manual, any recommendations for alternative manuals ?

Found a bpok on Honda Engine Swaps on Ebay

Looks like just what I'm after, anybody got a copy ? Is it any good ?
Not after your copy, if its junk I'll avoid it but if its good or new to you all I'll buy one.

Well never being one to pass up on a bargain I now have a D16A9 engine with all the ancilliaries from a 1990 CRX.
Got to fetch it from 130 miles away yet and buy an engine hoist to do it properly but I'll keep you all posted
Suppose I should try and find a Civic Shuttle EFi fuel tank too
